The video above was an encounter we had with 3 bear cubs while hiking the Weetock from Haywood Landing to Long Point Road. This video was shot by Fred Bear on his iPhone.
The video above was shot in what we affectionately call, “Bear Valley”, because it is a low, swampy area with lots of rotten logs that the bears can tear apart to find grubs. The Croatan is a bear sanctuary, and it is home to a healthy population of black bears. In this video, you see a momma bear and her two cubs, with one cub featured prominently.
This is a video of an Osprey nest with the two osprey parents working together to guard and feed their offspring. This video wasn’t taken on the trail, but very near to the White Oak River which borders the Croatan National Forest.
