Camping on a Warm Night in February

Estimated read time 2 min read

I took advantage of the two warmest days in February, so far. I set out on Tuesday, February 10 with my favorite hammock. I went to a spot where I have camped before. I was expecting rain on Wednesday morning, so I set up my camp accordingly. I had a couple of visitors to my campfire and we enjoyed some tasty campfire food, including some delicious grilled chicken.

It was a pretty uneventful trip. I arrived at my campsite around 16:00. I got everything set up before dark and still had time to hike out to my car and back before dark. I wanted to fetch my laptop and meet Anne, who was joining me for dinner. It’s really nice having some additional daylight.

I slept well. It was very quiet except when the wind violently whipped my rain fly. I probably should have gotten up and tightened the lines on my rain fly, but I just turned over and went back to sleep because I’m lazy like that.

It wasn’t raining when I woke up and made coffee. I had a walk around the area while I drank coffee and pondered breakfast. However, it wasn’t long before the rain started to fall. It was very light at first. It was pretty hard to take it seriously.

I made a trip to my car to offload some of my gear, leaving just the things I would need to hike and have lunch. I got to the car and back without really getting wet. However, by the time I made my final hike out, I had to wrap myself in a ground cloth to avoid getting soaked. Of course, it stopped raining about the time I arrived at my car.

All in all, it was a lovely trip; even with the rain. The temperature didn’t fall below 50F all night. I’m glad I managed to take advantage of the warmer weather. I hope to do a lot more camping as we get into spring. Hit me up if you want to join me. I generally just do overnight trips because they don’t require much planning and I don’t have to take time off work.
