Lots of Green, and Fireflies!

Estimated read time 2 min read

First, I haven’t been blogging as much because I’ve been working too many hours and I barely get time to go hiking; much less blog about it. Sometimes I don’t take any pictures. Sometimes I can’t take pictures because I don’t get out until after dark. Most of the time, I just don’t want to sit here at my computer and write about it, when I’d rather be doing anything else.

Having said that, the forest is very green, although it is still tinder dry. The streams are barely flowing, including Holsten Creek. I personally think the official trail section is kind of ugly, because it’s so overgrown with ground cover. There are still some scenic spots on the official trail. However, I find the unofficial sections are more scenic.

What I can say about the official trail is that the fireflies were unbelievable two nights ago. I would assume they still are. If you go out there an hour or two after sunset, you will not be disappointed. I have never seen so many fireflies blinking in one area. They were mesmerizing. The ground was like a starry sky, with all of the stars blinking!

That’s really about all I have to report. I have been hiking and camping a few times in the past 10 days. I haven’t been out on the water much this year. It takes longer to get the kayak in the water than it does to embark on a hike, and time is my biggest constraint.

On that note, I’m signing off. I may not be blogging again for a week or so, but you still might see me in the forest. More often than not, I’m arriving after 18:00 (6pm).
