The Forest is Getting Greener

Estimated read time 2 min read

… and I got a few minutes to test a new camera. I don’t have much to report, except that the trees are beginning to get leaves and the forest floor is also greening up and beginning to flower.

I finally bought a new Nikon DSLR; my first full frame sensor. The price was right, because Nikon is moving on to their mirrorless cameras. I have lots of old Nikon lenses, so I really wanted to stay with the DSLR format and I was able to buy a brand new D780 for $1400. It also helps that I had some money to spend.

The real beauty of the full frame sensor is that my wide angle zoom (17-35mm) is effectively much wider than it was on my old D7000 (DX sensor), so it can capture expansive images of forest scenes. I have a 9mm lens for my Lumix, which is an 18mm equivalent, so very close to the 17mm, but nowhere near the quality of the Nikon lens. Also, the D780 takes much higher quality images than my little Lumix, that will probably still be my primary hiking camera, because it weighs a lot less than the Nikon.

I only had about 30 minutes to grab some pictures as it was getting dark when I arrived Sunday night. I would have arrived sooner if I hadn’t misplaced my glasses. As a result, I didn’t get anything spectacular. However, I did grab a few images. If nothing else, they show the increase in foliage from my previous trips.
