Hiking Under a Bright Moon

Estimated read time 1 min read

We didn’t have a full moon on Feb 20, but the sky was clear and the moon was bright. I have no idea how far we hiked, but we did cover some ground. We went off trail a couple times, but we mostly stayed on the trail.

Since we had a bright moon, I took out my camera and took a few long exposures. We saw a possum clinging to a tree next to the trail. When I first saw it’s eyes shining back at me I was startled because it was so close. Once I focused on it and saw it was just a cute, fuzzy possum, trying to hold perfectly still so we couldn’t see it, I relaxed.

I would be remiss if I didn’t mention that we were not eaten by any bears or chased by any coyotes. As far as I know, we weren’t bitten by any snakes or dragged into the creek and drowned by any alligators. I feel like I need to point this out, because I am always being warned of the dangers by well-meaning non-hikers.
