Spider Webs!

Estimated read time 2 min read

OMG! On our last night hike, we walked around and through at least a million spider webs. I guess it’s that time of year. The good news, I guess, is that the spiders seem to have the mosquitoes under control.

Since my last blog, we’ve paddled out to Bear Island from the Wildlife Ramp at the end of Shell Rock Landing Road. We paddled out as the sun was going down so we had to paddle back in the dark. That was more challenging as it was also dead low tide and if you weren’t in the channel, you were walking. We took the easy way back through the inlet and up the ICW, but there were still some places where we didn’t have enough water to paddle.

Getting out on the ocean was a nice break. We were fighting a stiff wind on our way out, but it was behind us on our return trip, although it had died down some.

By the way, some of the trail markers are missing on the paddle trail from the Wildlife Landing to the island, and the sand has moved around a lot during recent storms, so here is a GPX track from our trip out to the island. It will take you right to the back side of the island. It’s always best to avoid low tide on this trip, but you can make it through if you don’t mind getting out of your boat and walking in a few places.
