We finally got some real rain, but apparently the forest didn’t get as much as I did in Hubert. I measured 12 inches over 36 hours. According to the forestry service, the croatan got about 4 inches (at least that’s what they reported from the site of the Black Swamp fire).
Anyway, the four inches, or whatever did fall around the Weetock trail was enough to swell the streams and push Holsten Creek into a minor flood stage.

We hiked on the southside to check out the streams first. Then went over to Holsten Creek, and finally we checked out the fireflies on the official trail, and we walked down to the stream to have a look at it. It was a pleasant, albeit short, walk, but at least we got out early enough to enjoy the views and take a few photos.
Here is a comparison of what Holsten Creek looked like a week ago and what it looked like last night (5/13).
