Short Hike on the East Side

Estimated read time 2 min read

We finally managed to get out while we still had a couple hours before sunset. We hiked east of HW58 down to Holsten Creek, then we headed up a tributary that flows into Holsten.

The hike started out well and everything was fine until I stopped paying close attention to where we were going and we wandered too far west up a tributary to the tributary … still thinking we were on the original tributary, but it eventually became apparent that we were not following the stream I had planned to follow.

We turned east and wended our way through some thick growth; mostly small trees, so not as bad as thorny vines and briars, thankfully. We didn’t get back on track before we ran into the firebreak that delineates the rectangle of private property that we expected to encounter, but not that far west.

Sometimes you take a detour. I’m not sure if Fred is going to fire me and find a new navigator, but, to be fair, I always warn him that there is a high risk of getting lost if you follow me into the woods. In my defense, though, the sky was very gray and I had nothing to give me a good sense of direction. 🙂
