New Haven Hammock

I believe it’s actually called the “Haven Tent”. I didn’t purchase the XL because I’m not a tall person and I wanted to keep the weight down. I could prattle on about the features of this tent/hammock, but the bottom line for me is that I sleep in it like I’ve never slept in any tent or hammock. I’ve spent two nights in the Haven, one of them in a rather noisy environment, and both nights I got a great night’s sleep.

One of the reasons for purchasing a hammock that is designed for a flat lay, is that you can roll onto your side and not have an unnatural twist in your back. I am a side sleeper, most of the time, although I used to sleep on my back. What I found with this hammock, is that I don’t even need to roll onto my side. For some reason, once I get nestled into this hammock, I fall asleep on my back and wake up on my back. Better yet, I sleep right through the night.

I am elated with this hammock just because I can sleep soundly and wake up rested. Beyond that, it has lots of storage pockets and the ridge line, which is pulled taught, is a strong strap that can be used to hang your heavy gear (like your entire backpack) inside the hammock. You can then slide your backpack up towards your head to access things you might want, and push it down to your feet to get it out of your face. It works quite well. I mostly used the built in storage pouches to hold the stuff sacks from the hammock, my rain fly, etc., and of course my phone and eye glasses.

p.s. I did purchase this hammock with my own money and nobody is paying me to write gear reviews.

p.p.s. I purchased the Haven Tent without their rain fly or air mattress. I already had an insulated sleeping pad that fits in it, nicely, and I wasn’t going to spend $80 on yet another rain fly. What you see in the photo is the Haven with an OEM rain fly … and my sleeping pad (not visible).
