Back in the day, the boy scouts donated a map box that they put at the head of the Weetock trail. It had a map of the entire trail. The forestry service objected, because the trail map described an unofficial/unapproved trail. The structure was moved to Haywood Landing. Three days ago, I noticed that the display box has been moved back to the head of the trail, without the map.
I also noticed that forestry (or a trail angel) has removed the large pine tree that was obstructing the official trail section. I was about to remove that tree, myself, because it was really difficult to get past.
Fred and I went to Fort Macon for cannon firing and fireworks on Tuesday night (June 4), so we missed a night of hiking.
Fred is still on a quest to photograph fireflies, although there don’t seem to be as many of them as there were a few days ago. He dropped his lens hood somewhere on the trail, in case anyone finds it. We hiked the same trails last night but didn’t see it. A pterodactyle probably picked it up and took it to it’s nest. That’s what happened to one of my pocket knives.
There isn’t much to add, at this time. I do plan on camping some more before the nights get too warm. After that, I’m planning a trip to western NC; probably the Pisgah National Forest. If anyone is interested in a few days hiking and camping out there, let me know. I haven’t set a date, yet, so we can negotiate that if you’re serious about going.
