Walking the Entire Weetock (unofficial & official)

Estimated read time 2 min read

It turns out, if you follow the blue-and-white blazed trail from one end to the other, including the official section, it is 16 miles … maybe a little more, since the GPS rounds off the corners.

I walked the entire thing on Sunday, March 9. I started around 09:00, I took a detour (not in my GPS track) to fetch something from my car for lunch, I stopped for lunch around 13:00 near the culvert, and I had to walk 2.2 miles back to my car. All together, I hiked 19.8 miles with my day pack, and I arrived back at my car around 19:30 as it was getting dark.

I took a lot of photos, and I noted some of the hazards on the trail. Eventually, I hope to add a page to this site with a detailed map of the entire trail, complete with photos from various places on the trail, and notes about where there are slippery bridges, stream crossings, cypress knees, etc.

For now, here is a screen capture from Google Earth that shows the route, and here is the GPS track if you want to download it and put it on your phone/GPS.

When I do the detailed page, I intend to point out the places where you can easily short-circuit some parts of the trail, which would take miles off the overall distance. There are a couple lobes you could bypass and not miss much, bringing the end-to-end trek down to 14 miles or less. Also, I will annotate the places where there is a trail that will bring you out to the road, in addition to the obvious places where the trail connects with or crosses a road.

Stay tuned!
