Fireflies

Estimated read time 1 min read

The last few hikes I’ve been on with Fred have been mostly a quest to find and photograph fireflies. I didn’t have much luck on our most recent hike (5/28). I try to take photos just as it’s getting dark, so I can get the woods and the fireflies, rather than just a very dark or black scene with a lot of yellow dots.

I did finally remember to take my step counter. According to it, we hiked just under 10,000 steps; mostly in the dark. The temperature was very pleasant after sunset.

The fireflies just weren’t cooperating until we got to the sawdust pile and, by then, it was very dark. I’m not sure why, but the sky always seems larger and more beautiful from on top of the sawdust pile at night.
